Day 22 (11 June 2024) - Day of the Turtle

Miles - 16.84

Total Miles - 194.7, Miles left - 21 (per NCT map)
Elevation Gain - 203' - 10,703' total
days - 22 hiking, 39 total since start

Bike shuttling - 0 miles (total - 71.5 miles)

Today started out rainy as hell and somewhat late - didn't start walking until 10 AM.  I was soaked before I got moving.  Actually I waited for a bit and thought; what the hell, I'm either going to walk or not walk so I started walking.  After .9 mile the rain stopped but the first 10 miles were cloudy and the mosquitoes were on a mission.

Deb met me at mile 5 and we ate at a tavern by Amnicon Lake and I had an awesome burger.  Miles 1 - 5 were on County Rd A, once again.  Miles 6 - 10 were on a gravel road which was nice.  Miles 11 - 14 just sucked as they were on State Highway 35 which could have been worse but still sucked.  The rest were on trails till I got to the campground.

I saw 2 hikers in the park heading towards Little Manitou Falls, but I don't count them as NCT hikers as I doubt they even knew that they were on the NCT.

The start
The turtles, 3 of them.  Presumably they were laying their eggs.  Why they would decide a gravel shoulder of a highway is a good place baffles me.

Little Manitou Falls (finally sun)
Amnicon River (I believe)
