It was a beautiful Saturday morning, sunny and warm.  I was on the trail at 9:45 after driving from home.  The majority of my first seven miles was on road with maybe 2 miles of trails in or near Solon Springs.  The trail went through a beautiful park in the city and the road route wandered through town.  I've never been to Solon Springs before.  It seems like a nice small town.

My question in the title remains:  Where the hell are all of the kids?
Okay, it's a rhetorical question.  I know where they are; in their house staring at their screens.  I did not see any kids- actually I didn't see anyone not in their car - it was kind of eerie.

Today and for the next 2 days Deb is shuttling me, basically being a trail angel.

I had walked approximately 145 miles without falling - that obviously ended today.  I was going over a road rail in Solon Springs as I left the trail to hike on the roads when my foot caught the rail and I went down - fortunately no one saw this so did it really happen?

Once I left Solon Springs and was on trail I was in the Douglas County Bird Sanctuary.  It's an amazing Pine-Oak Barrens.  So amazingly interesting.

There were so many ponds, but it has been so dry that they seem to be drying up.  This looks like a stream but it isn't.

Pink Lady Slipper (orchid family)

I saw 2 turtles in the middle of this pond but not close enough to get a picture.

I saw 2 Trumpeter Swans in this pond/lake but too far away to get a good picture.  I can't be sure but I think there were 2 baby swans also.  The Trumpeter Swans are so awesome.
